The fashion industry was one of the biggest industries to benefit from the end of the war and consumerism.
A lot of clothing restrictions were enforced during the war and people were glad to be rid of them and now wore "luxorious and expressive" clothing.
Clothing manufacturers learned how to mass produce military uniforms during the war. Because of this knowledge they were now able to mass produce clothing and market them to commom people. Stylish clothing used to only be for the rich but were now for everyone.

Dior's new look was designed to give women a more feminine look. The ladies were looking for something more than just a civilian version of a military uniform.
The evening version of the look was very glamorous and consisted of strapless tops and full skirts.
Dior's look was more pristine and immaculate. Some, like Audrey Hepburn, chose a different look and sme chose to follow her.
