  • During the 1950s, televisions became very popular
  • Many people started to bring television into their homes
  • During the early 50s the number of hours that people watched television steadily increased
  • What was shown on television became accepted as normal, including the ideal family, schools and neighborhoods
  • People believed what they heard and saw on television because they were "Eye Witnesses"
  • Newspapers and other forms of entertainment started to be of less importance
  • In 1954, black and white broadcasting became color broadcasting
  • News broadcasting changed dramatically from newsmen reading the news to newshows which showed videotaped pictures and live reports
  • The coaxial cable and microwave relays made this possible
  • A coaxial cable is a transmission line for radio frequncy and distibutes cable television signals.
  • Microwave relays allow a television to link up to satelites

  • The most popular shows included sitcoms such as:
  • The Honeymooners - The shows was about Ralph who tries to support his family with the little income he gets. In most episodes he and his best friend try to come up with get-rich-schemes that fail.
  • The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet - Was about the life of Ozzie and Harriet and their family, focused more on the realistic side of life.
  • I love Lucy- Was the most watched show for four of its six seasons in the United States. About Lucy and her husband an upcoming singer Ricky and their everyday struggles in life.
